James W. GOULD, born 1868 in Sheffield, son of James Gould (b.1827 Lichfield, Staffs) and Ellen Rickett. His father worked in an iron foundry. The family sailed from Liverpool in 1871 on the 'Nevada', arriving in New York then moving on to Chicago. They were there at the time of the Chicago Fire. James Sr. helped with the cleaning up of the debris. The family then moved, in early 1872, to Plainview, NB, where they built a homestead. James Sr. lived there until his death. He had a son and daughter but she died before they emigrated. Being an early settler in Nebraska was a hard life but James Sr. struggled on through many tests and trials to keep his home together and his family alive. His wife, Ellen who had been born in Lincs. stood by his side. James Jr. became a succesful farmer and carpenter and married a Danish girl, Wiego L. Hanson in 1895. They were to have 7 children.Vasey
George VASEY born in Yorkshire settled in Harlan County farming cattle on a 240 acre site, in Eldorado Township His father had a farm in Yorkshire and arrived in Nebraska in 1885. George married in 1868 to Margarette Tindell and they had 13 children. In 1895 he was elected Justice of the Peace and he was also on the School Board.
